Ejiogu condoles NUJ over death of journalists

The Chief of Staff of Imo State Government House, Sir Jude Ejiogu, has condoled the leadership of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State chapter led by Sir Innocent Igwe over the sudden death of some of their members.

Sir Ejiogu expressed sorrow over the spate of death that has bedeviled the media profession in recent times, especially the auto crash involving members of NUJ where three officials lost their lives, among them an Imo son, Mr. Adolphus Okonkwo, from Ihitte Uboma council area.

The Chief of Staff sympathised with the immediate families of the deceased, including that of the Publisher of the Eastern Lumina Newspaper and Magazine, Dr. Joseph Ifediato, who until his death was a lecturer in the Department of Optometry in Imo State University Owerri, appealing to them and all media practitioners in the state to take solace in the Lord and avoid mourning like people without hope.

“This is a time for sober reflection that death is a necessary end. It also means that no one should boast of anything no matter the person’s level of wealth in life. What happened to these media professionals could also happen to anyone but what matters is where the person is going to after death. We should at all times recognise the supremacy of our maker who decides when life of an individual is due on earth,” Sir Ejiogu stated.

He described the press as partners in progress, assuring the NUJ leadership of government’s determination to work with the union to create an enabling environment where the masses would be kept abreast of the level of development and transformation ongoing in all the 27 council areas in the state.
