The cow milk market in Fagge local government area ofKano statehas increased its sales to over N200 million per day.

The development excites traders of the product, as the business is booming following the intervention of the Kano State Agro Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), supported by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

Chairman of the Cow Milk Marketers Association, Muhammad Ahmad Lawan Allarama, who briefed reporters on New Year Day in Kano, said the milk industry in the state, particularly the branch in Fagge, is now operating on international standard.

Allarama said the State Government, in collaboration with the IsDB donated to them over 100 generating sets, grinding and blending machines that they distributed to association’s over 200 members.

The chairman said the machines have smoothen their storage systems.

He disclosed that Kano State Agro Pastoral Development Project has provided 40 Milk Collection Centers across the State.

Allarama called on the government to kick start the usage of the 40 already built Milk Collection Centers across the State which would ease the storage as well as exportation of their products.

He said, “The 40 Milk Collection Centers across the state were fully equipped and completed for a long time, however we don’t understand why the government refused to start operating the places.

“If the 40 Milk Collection Centers are fully operational, I’m betting you that in the next few months, we will be transporting our products to international markets.

“Today, our storage facilities are the only problems we have, as our milk often time become waste as a result of lack of proper storage systems like cold rooms”.

The Chairman added that with the Milk Collection Centers their businesses would surely be improved to a greater height, with over 20,000 members across the State benefiting.

The Secretary of the Kano State Cow Milk Marketers Association, Sunusi Abdullahi Sunusi, said on daily basis they transport over 2 million liters of cow milk, so they want cooling trailers so that the product does not spoil while transporting it.

“We transport cow milk from across the Northern region, so we are calling for the installation of solar energy and provision of water and sanitation facilities.

“We are also calling on the state government and the Islamic Development Bank to support us with cash grants and loans to expand the market more,” Sunusi said. (The Nation)
