The Police Service Commission (PSC) is being urged by the Integrity Youth Alliance (IYA) to look into AIGs who are accused of fabricating their entry records.

According to the petition, also copied to the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, the senior officers were identified as AIG Abdul Yari and AIG Idowu Owohunwa, who, according to the group, should have retired this month, December 2024.

The petition dated December 30, 2024, and obtained by our reporters on Monday, asserted that manipulating the dates on their entry history to inaccurately reflect a longer service history with the Nigeria Police Force is a deliberate act of deception that not only undermines the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force but also calls into question the credibility of the information provided by all personnel.

The letter Signed by IYA National Coordinator Kelvin Adegnenga reads in part: ?We, therefore, call on your office to call on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, to release the reports that indicted AIG Abdul Yari and investigate AIG Idowu Owohunwa and others? entry records.

?We know that the Police Service Commission is responsible for disciplining police officers in Nigeria to take appropriate action to address this breach of trust based on Section 6 of the Nigeria Police Service Commission Establishment Act: dismiss and exercise disciplinary control over persons (other than the Inspector-General of Police) in the Nigeria Police Force.

?It is essential that the Nigeria Police Force maintain a culture of honesty and transparency within its workplace, and instances of dishonest behaviour must be dealt with promptly and decisively.

?The law is very clear on the consequence of any alteration or fabrication intended to pass as genuine; it constitutes a forgery under Nigerian law.

?Therefore, AIG Abdul Yari and others indicted should face the penalties for forgery, as Section 364 of the Criminal Code has prescribed a maximum sentence of 14 years imprisonment.

?Our request is based on Section 2 of the Freedom of Information Act, which says, ?A public institution shall ensure the proper organisation and maintenance of all information in its custody in a manner that facilitates public access to such information.?

?We trust in your professionalism and discretion in handling this matter, and we are confident that the necessary steps will be taken to rectify this situation.
