Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra state
The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been slammed by netizens after he shared a condolence post following a stampede that killed over a dozen citizens of the state on Saturday.
The stampede happened in Okija, in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, during the distribution of bags of rices to vulnerable citizens by a philanthropist.
Expressing deep sadness over the tragic loss, Soludo said his government has initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stampede and will work closely with relevant agencies to ensure that any negligence or lapses in safety protocols are addressed.
He urged residents to prioritise their safety and well-being, especially during charitable activities.
“We must do better to prevent such tragedies from happening again,” he said, while praying for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.
Reacting, an X user, @ae1tony, said, “More than 24hrs later. It’s too late for this.”
Another X user, @ChidozieCh62362, said, “No… wait till end of January so you can launch it properly.”
On his part, @ChibuikePaul17 said, “You should have waited till Monday morning.”
@Real_Chimago knocked the governor, saying, You dey always come late as the state first citizen I’m disappointed
@JetroOlowole said, “You guys should be calming down. Maybe the handlers have not been paid some months and need his payment or executive assurance to be proactive. Either way this is a better response focusing on organizers to prioritize safety and attention to details to forestall such incidents.” (The Guardian: Text, Excluding Headline)
