Anambra state APC governorship aspirant, Chief Paul Chukwuma
Chief Paul Chukwuma, a leading aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Anambra state, has halted his palliative distributions to communities following the tragic stampede in Okija during a palliative-sharing exercise.
In a statement on Sunday, Chukwuma expressed profound sorrow over the incident, which claimed several lives, and extended his condolences to the grieving families.
“I have directed my campaign organisation to develop a strategy that will minimise discomfort for the intended beneficiaries,” he stated.
Chukwuma, known for his philanthropic activities across Anambra communities regardless of political affiliation, lamented the tragedy, describing it as a devastating blow to Ndi Anambra during the festive season.
“This tragedy has touched us all, but it must not break the Anambra spirit—our sense of community, our legendary philanthropy, and our belief that wealth finds true meaning in bringing relief and happiness to ordinary people,” he remarked.
He encouraged Anambra’s affluent individuals not to lose faith but to devise innovative ways to support their communities during the Christmas season.
“We are in mourning. My campaign council has been instructed to suspend all physical distributions of Christmas gifts for now and come up with alternatives that ensure minimal disruption,” Chukwuma added.
He assured that his family would continue to pray for the affected families, seeking divine healing and comfort for their irreparable losses. (The Nation)
