Residents of WARP Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Estate Phase 1 in Emuren, Imota, Ikorodu, staged a peaceful protest on Friday, appealing to the Oba Ranodu of Imota, Oba Mudasiru Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, over the harassment and activities of land grabbers.
The protest followed a meeting at the residence of the estate’s president, Mr. Toriola Adeyemi., to address the increasing menace of the land grabbers. However, a mild drama unfolded when the land grabbers, in large numbers, confronted residents entering Mr. Yemi’s property, demanding they leave and desist from holding any meeting.
Despite a court order restraining the land grabbers from encroaching on the land and the State Ministry of Land Grabbers being aware of the issue, the harassment persisted. Residents claimed the grabbers openly defy the law, selling plots of land to other individuals and creating an atmosphere of fear and anxiety.
According to Adeyemi., the estate’s 15-acre property was legally purchased on May 15, 2024, from the Ayan-Olu family, with all necessary documents, including a survey plan, letters of authorization, family receipts, and photographic evidence, confirming ownership. Yet, in April, some descendants of the Ayan-Olu family reportedly demanded additional negotiations, threatening residents with forfeiture of their lands. (The Nation)
