The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has called on members of the Anambra State House of Assembly to liaise with stakeholders in their various constituencies to prioritize the needs of the people for government intervention.
He made the call at the occasion to mark the one year anniversary of the inauguration of the 6th State House of Assembly at the assembly complex in Awka, Tuesday. The governor harped on the need to develop the priority list of communities in the state saying that it has become necessary to ensure that the N20 million which the state government has earmarked for developmental projects in each of the 177 communities in the state, was deployed appropriately.
While commending the commitment of the leadership and members of the House of Assembly towards promoting participatory democracy in the state, Obiano observed that their support was instrumental to the numerous successes recorded by his administration in various sectors of the state economy.
He however, assured that under his watch, the legislature would receive the necessary support needed to be at its best in the discharge of its functions.
The governor used the occasion to call on the federal government to refund the state over N48 billion spent by the state in the execution of federal projects, especially roads in the state.
The governor stressed that the state was the highest owed state in the federation.
He noted that the refund would enable the state government execute priority projects as contained in the state government’s pillars of development.
Earlier in her address, the Speaker of the House, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu hailed the governor for his respect for the theory of separation of powers in the state and restated the resolve of the State Assembly to continue to work harmoniously with the executive arm.
She said that during the period under review, the state legislature passed four and amended six bills, while over 100 resolutions were passed.
