In a bid to address the negative impacts of youth restiveness, the federal government, in collaboration with the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalisation Programme (NIYEEDEP), recently unveiled a plan to create 12 million jobs for farmers and food entrepreneurs. The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, who made this known when he hosted NIYEEDEP, led by its coordinator, Kennedy Iyere, in Abuja, said the aim of the programme is to deal with the problems associated with joblessness among the nation’s teeming youths.

The initiative is envisioned to create and manage national grassroots business clusters and cooperatives, including integrating value-chain investment, among other objectives. If realised, the programme has the potential of creating avenues to economically engage the youth for a prosperous future. Considering the persistent negative impacts of unemployment among the youth, the government’s plan to create an enabling environment gives hope for a bright tomorrow for the youth.
