Plateau youths protest grazing reserve and ranching policy

A group of youths in Plateau State, North-Central region of Nigeria took to the streets on Monday protesting the inclusion of the state among states that have agreed to contribute lands for the purpose of establishing grazing reserves.

The youths want the state government to engage the people in proper sensitisation and awareness and discuss the policy before taking any decision on behalf of the people, considering the sensitivity of the policy.

The youths under the auspices of Plateau G17 Youths for Peace and Progress Forum have asked government to rescind the decision and engage citizens.

There was security coverage for the protesting youths as the Plateau State Police Commissioner, Adekunle Oladunjoye, led other security operatives to make sure that the protest does not get out of hand and hijacked by hoodlums.

The convener and leader of the forum, Dachung Bagos, expressed their fears about government’s action. He said that the move could jeopardise the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

Meanwhile, the government through the Director General of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, Joseph Lengmang, has denied government’s involvement in any decision on the grazing reserve policy. (Channels TV)
