A Presbyterian Clergy in Ebonyi State, Rev Bright Igwe, has been reportedly attacked by an independent oil marketer and his thugs in the state.
The clergyman narrated that he was attacked on his way to Ishiagu in Ivo council area when the oil mogul, Chief Ernest Ndukwe (aka Yar ‘dua), accosted him with dangerous weapons and attacked him.
He added that some of his items were also carted away, including a cash of N250, 000, by the attackers.
The victim, who had petitioned the state Police Command, alleged that the Command has not taken practical steps to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
He noted that his life was still at risk following threats suspected to be masterminded by agents of his attackers.
Rev Igwe also alleged that he received a threatening message from his attackers which reads: “Bright Igwe! You’re a thief, a hooligan, fraudster and fake Reverend priest, I will kill you here and use my money and connection to silence you and your generations forever. I told you that so far as both of us live in this Ishiagu you cannot escape me and my boys. This is just simple, when I finish with you, you may not live to share your experience for defrauding a chief like me.”
The clergyman stressed that since the incident, he longer sleep with his two eyes closed.
According to him, “During their attack on me, I lost the sum of N200,000, and my Infinix note 40 Pro Max phone valued at N400,000 was damaged. My clothes torn as I was naked on the road.
“I was later rushed to the Military CantonmentHospital, Nkwegu. I reported the matter to the Crack Team of the Ebonyi State Police Command but regrettably, I have not been able to get justice against the perpetrators.
“It was a clear assassination attempt because if not that people intervened, my attackers were determined to kill me. They only flee on sighting rescuers.”
The state Police spokesman, DSP Joshua Ukandu, was out of reach at the time of filing the report.
When contacted on phone, Chief Ndukwe dismissed all the allegations as baseless, unfounded and calculated attempt to tarnish his integrity.
He stressed that the matter was already before the police for investigation. (THISDAY: Text, Excluding Headline)
