In a bid to alleviate the financial burden of the economic challenges, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ado-Ekiti Branch provided a 50% subsidy on cooking gas to its members on Saturday.

The initiative, dubbed “Lawyers Gas Station,” took place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Abound Gas Station in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

A large number of NBA members turned out to take advantage of the discount, which saw a kilogram of cooking gas, usually priced at N1,300, being sold for just N650.

This discount provided significant relief to the lawyers, allowing them to allocate funds to other essential needs.

Dr. Taiwo Omidoyin, the Chairman of the NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch, explained the motivation behind the initiative.

“This project was conceived as a response to the rising cost of living, to help our members cope with the economic difficulties they are facing,” he said.

He further emphasized that the initiative would go a long way in easing the financial strain on members. Dr. Omidoyin clarified that the discount applied only to financial members and that each member could purchase a maximum of 12.5 kilograms of LPG.

He said: “The leadership of the Branch is not unaware of the skyrocketing price of cooking gas and the general high cost of living in the country.

“There is a dire need for the leadership of the Association to periodically come up with palliative measures to cushion the current harsh economic atmosphere in the country. This necessitated the flag off of the initiative called the Lawyers Gas Station where lawyers would go to fill their cylinders at a discount of 50% of the normal market price.

“You will recall that sometime in August this year when prices of commodities in Nigeria rose sporadically, we flagged off the initiative of the lawyers market where food items were sold at 5a 0% discount of the market price.

“So, this time around we have come with the Lawyer Gas station initiative to help reduce the economic stress, financial burden, and general anxiety on the beneficiaries, allowing them to allocate their resources to other vital necessities for livelihood”, Dr. Omidoyin added. (The Nation)
