Resident Doctors clear the air, say nationwide strike not suspended

The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD) has called on the public to disregard media reports that it has suspended its industrial action, saying that doctors who are still being owed will continue with the strike.

According to a statement made available to News Express by the President of the association, Dr. Mohammed Askira, “The association wishes to state that only members whose salaries have been paid fully will suspend strike for one week to give room for mediation as appealed by the Speaker while those who are still being owed salaries will continue with the strike action as planned.

“This is the true position of the meeting between the national president and other members of the leadership and the speaker of the House of Representatives held on Wednesday June 8, 2016.”

Dr. Askira asked the public to await further communication on the issue from the NARD leadership.
