FUOYE VC, Prof Abayomi Fasina
?SSANU calls for probe by FG as FUOYE Senate passes vote of confidence
The Congress of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Branch, has accused the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, of sexual harassment.
The allegation is contained in a communique issued at the end of the Congress held on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Oye-Ekiti campus of the university. FUOYE SSANU in the communique signed by the Branch Chairman, Benjamin Faleye, and Branch Secretary, Ayomikun Aluko, called on the Federal Government to set up an investigative panel to probe Prof. Fasina over alleged sexual harassment of female staff of the institution.
Other allegations levelled against Fasina include harassment, intimidation and victimization of union members; creating a hostile work environment; administrative recklessness and lack of accountability.
?The congress called on the University?s Governing Council and relevant authorities to take urgent action and intervene swiftly to address these issues to restore harmony, uphold institutional integrity, and safeguard the welfare of staff and students,? FUOYE SSANU said.
However, the FUOYE Senate rose from its 70thmeeting yesterday (Wednesday) and passed a vote of confidence in the embattled Vice Chancellor.
It condemned SSAN?s ?baseless, unfounded and malicious? allegations of misconduct against Prof. Fasina.
Similarly, the FUOYE Alumni Association and some other groups have risen to the defece of Prof. Fasina.
A statement by the FUOYE spokesman, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, said the unions were unanimous that SSANU?s allegations against Prof. Fasina were ?not only spurious, but also unfounded, malicious and actionable, as the VC, who had worked in the last four years to put the university on a global map, following his giant infrastructural and academic strives, did not deserve such allegations.?
The allegations, they said, were not only baseless, but also an attempt to tarnish the reputation of the ?working Vice Chancellor.?
