Military traps Boko Haram fighters inside Sambisa Forest

With the setting in of the rains, elements of the outlawed Boko Haram are now trapped in the Sambisa Forest.

The Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Lucky Irabor, said in a news conference that troops operating in the axis have snuffed out their livelihood making life unbearable for them.

“What we have now done is to reduce the capacity they have in Sambisa and the same way they have made it difficult for us to reach them, we have also made life unbearable for them.

“If they remain there they are on their own but if they come out and surrender we are here to receive them,” he said.

Irabor said that the rains have placed terrain limitations on operations but gave the assurance that troops remain undeterred as they remain on course.

In the same vein, there was an attack on Niger troops in Bozzo giving cover to Nigerian troops constructing a bridge to link the two countries for Multinational Joint Task Force interactions.

Two Nigerian soldiers and unspecified number of their Nigerien counterparts were killed in the attack.

Bozzo town in Niger Republic bordering Nigeria is only assessable during the dry season.

Troops engaging in long range clearing operations around Chikungudu, Alagarno forest and Dikwa axis have continued to make progress according to Irabor.

Bomb making factories, training camp for children, assorted arms and trucks were recovered while abandoned civilians claiming to be captives were also rescued.
