Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District in the yet to be concluded legislative re-run election, assured the Ogoni that the recently launched cleanup project would be realised as the Federal Government and other stakeholders are sincere to implementing it.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by Mr. Parry Saroh Benson, his spokesperson, the former Secretary to Rivers State Government enjoined the people to discountenance rumour being peddled by their detractors that the project was not realisable.
Abe appealed to them to always work together in any project meant for the Ogoni irrespective of party affiliation and clannish differences among them.
He commended the Ogoni people for the rousing reception given to President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and other members of the presidential delegation that came for the launch of the cleanup of Ogoni land and other oil impacted communities in the Niger Delta at Bodo town in Gokana Local Government Area.
Abe said the turnout of Ogoni people for the event was high and resounding.
This, he said, goes a long way to depict the appreciation of the Ogoni to President Buhari for the laudable project.
He thanked the Ogoni people for standing behind him in the cause of facilitating the UNEP report and the process of its implementation.
The former chairman of the Senate Committee on downstream urged them to avoid anything capable of stirring conflict that could affect the implementation of the project.
He said that Ogoni people had displayed sagacity and intellectual wisdom in the way they fought for environmental justice and implored them to exhibit high level of discipline to benefit immensely from the project.
Abe cautioned them to be wary of external influences who are not happy with the progress going on in Ogoni and enjoined them not to allow such influences to derail their long standing vision for better Ogoni.
