Residents of Maryland and Ikeja, Lagos State, today became the first to benefit from the healthy living initiative put together by Nutricima Limited as they joined officials of the firm in the Walk for Digestive Health from Maryland to Ikeja.
The health walk, supervised by Dr. Femi Funsho Adebayo, a consultant and public health expert, is part of activities aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyles amongst the populace and promoting the wellness platform of the brand.
The digestive health walk saw hundreds of people, from different social strata, march in an atmosphere of conviviality from Maryland roundabout to Ikeja roundabout with fully equipped medical practitioners on hand to offer health tips and render free professional medical care to deserving participants during the exercise. Refreshments were also provided free to all participants by the organisers.
Head of Marketing, Nutricima Limited, Mrs. Wande Oluwasegunfunmi, said the event was part of a healthy living campaign by YO! Classic Yoghurt Classic to drive home the overall positive association of yoghurt to healthy living amongst Nigerians. She describes yoghurt as the life food for today’s generation.
Deola Kasali, Senior Brand Manager, YO! Classic, also said: “We are doing this in furtherance of the successful launch of our YO! Classic Yoghurt, to educate Nigerians on the benefits of healthy consumption habits and healthy lifestyles.”
A statement made available to News Express explained that the walk is part of the YO! Yoghurt Community Service initiative on digestive health and is one of several activities planned to last over a 90-day period across Lagos State. The activity involves fitness walk, aerobics, family fitness activities, educational seminars and the deployment of professional medical practitioners to all nooks and crannies of the state to educate people on healthy consumption and lifestyles while also rendering free medical services to all who desire, particularly the indigent.
Nutricima Limited launched Yo Classic Yoghurt in three cities of Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt in August with endorsements by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control as well as the Nutrition Society of Nigeria. Senior officials in Abuja and Lagos represented both agencies.
The YO! Yoghurt Community Service Initiative on Digestive Health is slated for about a dozen locations in Lagos State between now and November 2012.
A statement from Nutrima’s publicists said: “YO! Yoghurt is made with live yoghurt cultures thereby giving the ultimate yoghurt experience. Experts say yoghurt offers many benefits to consumers including aiding healthy digestion while being a great source of calcium and protein. Yoghurt is also reputed to aid the healing process from infections while promoting the immunity in the body.”
