Cristel Nchama, one of the women featured in the leaked sex tapes of former Equatorial Guinea official Baltasar “Bello” Engonga, has filed a formal complaint with the National Gendarmerie in Malabo.

Her decision makes her the first among the women involved in the scandal to take legal action against Engonga.

Engonga, who recently lost his position as Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been under scrutiny since explicit videos showing him with multiple women, and other clips where he allegedly asked women to send explicit content, went viral. The videos were reportedly leaked while he was held at the Black Beach prison in Malabo, following charges of embezzlement.

Speaking to local media, Ms. Nchama revealed she felt deceived and exploited by her former partner. She expressed feeling “humiliated” and described the significant damage the public leak of these videos has had on her personal and professional reputation. “It’s my reputation, my honor,” Nchama said, adding that she had repeatedly declined Engonga’s requests to record intimate moments, although some scenes were filmed and promptly deleted. She is demanding accountability from Engonga for the harm caused and wants clarity on how the videos were retained and ultimately leaked.

“I believe it’s normal for consenting adults to share private moments, but it’s not sensible to keep this type of content on a device,” Nchama stated. Her complaint has led the National Gendarmerie to invite other women impacted by the leak to come forward and file their own complaints.

In response to the controversy, Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Justice, Reginaldo Biyogo Mba Ndong, visited the courthouse where explicit recordings allegedly took place, specifically in the bathrooms of Court Number 1, another reported scene of Engonga’s videos. He condemned the fact that such content was recorded within the courthouse and emphasized the need for stricter security measures to prevent similar incidents. The Justice Minister was accompanied by Vice Minister Riocalo and Secretary-General, who joined him in a thorough inspection of the investigating courts in Malabo, pledging to implement enhanced surveillance and security protocols.
