By PAMELA EBOH, Awka

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Anambra State Chapter on Wednesday suspended the ban on Anambra State Football Association activities for seven days effective November 5.

The resolution was made at an emergency meeting of the Association in Awka, the state capital came on the heels of the National Secretariat intervention under the leadership of Isaiah Benjamin and other stakeholders.

The Congress asked members to feel free to cover activities of the Anambra FA within the period of truce noting that the suspension would be withdrawn for a return to status quo if the reciprocating action was not taken within a reasonable time.

The resolution reached at the meeting reads: “Following the intervention of President of SWAN, the congress held an emergency meeting and resolved to suspend the ban on coverage of Anambra FA activities places on July 25, 2024.

“The decision was due to the respect Anambra Chapter has for the president, the national secretariat and some stakeholders who have intervened.

“The suspension of the ban which took effect from Nov. 5 is a period of truce during which we expect that the Anambra FA reciprocate the gesture by addressing the issues that led to the faceoff.

“We remain committed to the peace building ideology of the President, Isaiah Benjamin and resolved to continue to work for the success of his administration and good of our noble association.”

The Congress commended the Anambra State Sports Development Commission for the impressive performances of the state at national competitions including the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

SWAN also congratulated the new Director of Sports in the Commission, Emeka Obidimma, and expressed confidence that he will add immense value to the Commission being a celebrated veteran sportsman.

It called on members to continue to participate in the activities of the association and carry themselves and the association with dignity at all times, while expecting that chairman of Anambra FA would accept the olive branch and reciprocate by addressing the issues that led to the ban.

The resolution whichh was copied to the national secretariat was signed by Chimezie Anaso and Uche Ndeke, the Chairman and Assistant Secretary respectively.
