•PDP Governor Forum
The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) on Tuesday asserted that the main opposition party is not a one-man enterprise.
It made the declaration as it sought to push back on claims by the camp of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that the chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed is supporting the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara because he wants to vie for the PDP 2027 presidential election ticket with him.
The claim was made by the former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government in Rivers State, Samuel Nwanosike who had in a televised interview, alleged that Mohammed intends to run for the presidency in 2027 and seeks to appoint Governor Sim Fubara as his vice-presidential candidate, claiming a strategy to combine resources from various states to challenge the current president, Bola Tinubu.
But in a statement signed by the Director General of the PDP GF, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the Forum categorically rejected these claims, emphasizing that the assertions are misleading and aim to distort the unity and purpose of the party.
The Forum expressed concern that Nwanosike’s remarks reflect a misguided perspective that could mislead constituents and disrupt the peace within the party.
The Forum articulated that the PDP operates as a collective body, not a vehicle for individual ambitions.
It said Governor Mohammed has been focused on fostering collaboration among party members, ensuring that the PDP remains an effective and united force in Nigerian politics.
Highlighting the core values of the Forum, the statement stressed the importance of unity, accountability, and service to the people.
It noted that Governor Mohammed views politics as a call to serve rather than a profession, emphasizing that all members should prioritize the common good over personal gain.
The statement further addressed the need for inclusivity and reconciliation within the PDP, reinforcing that the party is committed to social justice and economic development.
The Governors’ Forum urged members to embrace a collaborative approach rather than engage in divisive rhetoric that could harm the party’s reputation and mission.
In response to the characterization of Governor Mohammed’s ambitions, the PDP-GF clarified that such speculation undermines the party’s collective efforts.
The statement emphasized that the PDP is a platform for growth, where individuals are encouraged to contribute positively without resorting to self-serving agendas.
The Forum reiterated that Governor Mohammed will not align with factions that seek to undermine the party’s unity or its commitment to the people.
The PDP-GF encouraged all party members to stay true to the principles of unity, discipline, and mutual respect, ensuring that the PDP remains a formidable force for democracy in Nigeria. (Nigerian Tribune)
