1,000-man rally: ‘Do It Right Nigeria’ moves to Abuja streets today

After registering its intention to salvage the nation from the worrisome dimension it is taking through a mindset orientation campaign few months back, Do It Right Nigeria, a non-profit organisation, has concluded plans to hit the streets of Abuja, the Nigerian capital, today to flag off a nationwide awareness and sensitisation drive tagged “I,000-Man Rally: Walk for Peace and Unity”.

The ‘Unity Walk’, according to Dixon Jubril, Founder and Coordinator, Do It Right Foundation, “is part of activities lined up to sensitise Nigerians in all parts of the country on the need for MINDSET RE-ORIENTATION and perception change from a negative state in order to DO WHAT IS RIGHT always.”

Said he: “Our display of moral values cannot be selective if we truly believe and want to change the country for the better, we cannot afford to do what is right because it is the easiest thing to do but because it is the right thing to do.

“Doing what is right is using the pedestrian bridges instead of dashing across the highway, obeying traffic rules at all times and not only in the presence of security agents, paying of tax and other levies, respect for the country, its flag and coat of arm such that those who still manage to hoist Nigeria’s flag should ensure that it is kept clean and not allowed to be flying dirty and torn as could be seen in some places including government establishments. It requires us all to behave in an orderly manner and shun violence. These are behaviours that will portray us responsible citizens who will in turn be respected and treated with dignity by citizens of other nations because of the positive attitudes we have decided to adopt and not condemn us based on the misdeeds of few unpatriotic Nigerians.”

Jubril told News Express that it has become necessary to sensitise Nigerians in order to create avenues where Nigerians can freely talk to each other, thereby correcting some of the actions that tend to hamper the nation from progressing.

His words: “The reason for the walk is because of its capacity to unite and send the message across to a larger audience, and once we start in Abuja we will not relent until we take it to all other parts of the country. The task of building our country is a collective responsibility that requires the positive contribution of every citizen irrespective of religious and ethnic sentiments.”

The Do It Right chief disclosed that the August 1 march would take off from the National Secretariat through the National Assembly Complex to the streets of the Federal Capital Territory.

He called on Nigerians to come out en-masse and support the cause to transform Nigeria into one of the greatest nations on earth through a process of self transformation that ultimately leads to national transformation.
