Power firms hit by N300bn revenue shortfall, send SOS to FG

The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) has sent a distress message to the Federal Government following a revenue shortfall of about 300 billion naira.

The association has asked the government to allow the DISCOs easy access to foreign exchange to boost service delivery, a Channels TV report said.

It quoted the Executive Director of the association, Mr Sunday Oduntan, as explaining that the ability of the industry to meet its obligations is being constrained by the lack of access to scarce foreign exchange.

According to Mr Oduntan, the deficit threatens to completely undermine the electricity value chain and its ability to continue to serve the customers, the report said.

It further quoted him as saying that the metering gap has dropped to 2.8 million customers, with about 3.3 million customers now metered across the country.
