Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo
Kenneth Okonkwo, the actor-turned-politician, has sharply criticised Nigerians for their apparent acceptance of the recent petrol price hike without protest.
In a recent Instagram post, Okonkwo highlighted the contrast between the current price of N1,000 per litre and the widespread protests that occurred when petrol was priced at N140 per litre a few years ago.
He questioned the publics complacency and criticised the silence of leaders who once championed those earlier protests.
Okonkwo described the situation as hypocrisy and expressed dismay over the fact that the same leaders who had previously protested against high fuel prices are now in power, yet silent amidst the steep increase.
He wrote, Like play like play, Nigerians who stood against N140 per litre at Ojota years back are now paying N1000 a litre after hours on the queue under same people that led the protest. It shall not be well with the wicked.
His comments resonate with the 2012 protests during the Goodluck Jonathan administration when petrol prices were raised to N140 per litre. (Nigerian Tribune)
