A leading Igbo intellectual group, Aka Ikenga, has joined in condemning the deportation of non-indigenes by the Lagos State Government in Nigeria’s South-West.
The group in a statement issued yesterday in Lagos and signed by its President Chief Goddy Uwazurike frowned at “the deportation of citizens of this country Nigeria from Lagos to Onitsha, Anambra State.” It warned that the policy would lead to serious problems if it is not discontinued.
“We question the pedestal on which they were deported,” Aka Ikenga said, asking: “Was the deportation by a court order? Was it at the whims and caprices of anybody in authority in Lagos?”
According to Aka Ikenga, “Some of those deported claimed they were abducted on the road, detained in a camp and then dumped in Onitsha, Anambra State by trailers and trucks.
“This is horrible and an aberration for a citizen to be deported from one part of the country to another. This is a democratic era and it is difficult to believe that the highly respected government respected government of Lagos State will be suspected of involvement herein. “Whatever be the case, this travesty must stop forthwith before it degenerates.”
