A radical Lagos-based based senior journalst and activist, Mr. Richard Akinnola, has published a book on last fortnight’s discharge and acquittal of Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late military ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha, in connection with the June 4, 1996 murder of heroine of democracy, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.
Al-Mustapha was freed after 15 years in detention following a July 12 Lagos Appeal Court ruling by the Appeal Court in Lagos and, as if he was already waiting for that decision, the prolific Akinnola frenziedly went to work on a book on the controversial trial.
His verdict? It is apparent from the title of the book: A TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE.
The book was presented to the public today at Excellence Hotel, Ogba, Lagos, at an impressive ceremony also graced by several labour and rights activists.
Among those that attended the event are Ugwuzor Adindu, former deputy Head of Gani Fawehinmi chambers; labour and rights activist Ayodele Akele; Mrs. Ganiat Fawehinmi, wife of late legal and rights icon Gani Fawehinmi; and seasoned journalist and lawyer, Osa Director.
Akinnola, a frontline activist and judicial writer of over 30 years experience, has written extensively on human rights issues as well as heroes of the struggle in Nigeria.
