Obi dissociates self from ant-Jonathan advert

Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has disassociated himself from the advert in some newspapers alleging that President Goodluck Jonathan stabbed him in the back by sitting by and watching him lose the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) appeal court case.

Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, Governor Obi described the publication as another plot by enemies of progress to cause disaffection between friends.

Below is the text of Obienyem’s statement: “Our attention has been drawn to an advertorial in some newspapers, alleging, among others, that the President, His Excellency, Dr. Jonathan Goodluck Jonathan, stabbed our Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, on the back for allowing the Court of Appeal to enter judgement against him on the APGA matter.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to disassociate the Government of Anambra State from the publication which we believe was planted by the enemies to cause disaffection among friends.

“From the advertorial, it is easy to assume that President Jonathan controls the Judiciary and should be vilified for not allowing judgement to swing to a particular side. This is farther from the truth as the judiciary remains an independent arm of the Government.

“Gov. Obi did not take any person to court on APGA case and cannot be said to be desperate over the judgement of the court going either way. He is too busy in Anambra executing his projects for the good of the State which everybody acknowledges. He has said consistently that he does not have any issue with anybody in APGA, including his brother and that APGA remains one family.

“The statement also alluded to the possibility of Gov. Peter Obi joining the Peoples Democratic Party even when he had used every occasion to say that he would not vie for any post after 2014.

The general public is called upon to disregard the publication with full assurances that it does not in any manner represent the thinking of Governor Obi in politics today and cannot therefore be associated with him. It is clearly the work of mischief makers.”
