Investigation begins into death of First Lady Patience Jonathan’s mother

The death, on Monday, of the foster mother of Nigeria’s First Lady is being investigated, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said.

Madam Charity Oba, foster mother of Dame Patience Jonathan, died in a ghastly accident Monday evening around Elele, Rivers State, while travelling to neighbouring Bayelsa State. She was, however, not the only casualty as a 12-year-old girl simply identified as Miss Favour also died in the accident.

Speaking yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, FRSC Sector Commander, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, said that the cause of the accident would be disclosed at the end of the investigation.

“For now, we cannot say what caused the accident. We are still investigating and will definitely let you know the cause when we conclude the investigation,” Olagunju was quoted as saying by The Guardian newspaper.

Dame Jonathan, who has been receiving condolence messages, had to cut short her visit to Geneva, Switzerland on getting the sad news of Madam Oba’s death.
