Trial over Kudirat’s murder: MY RELEASE A VICTORY FOR DEMOCRACY, says Al-Mustapha

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, has associated his release with democratic dividends provided by President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

“I am emotional; I can’t grant interview,” he said when our reporter asked whether he would still remain in the army.

Al-Mustapha, who spoke to some journalists at the residence of Sheikh Gumi in Kaduna, North-West Nigeria, thanked his supporters and the Appeal Court in Lagos for releasing him from prison after 15 months in detention for alleged conspiracy and murder of heroine of democracy, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.

“My release is a victory for democracy. Whoever seeks justice seeks peace,” he said.

Al-Mustaphaexpressed optimism that the peace that has eluded the country over the years would soon return.

He urged Nigerians to pray and believe that God would restore lasting peace.

On his state of health, he said: “I have been medically tested and I am hale and hearty.”
