Rear Adm. James Oluwole, the Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Nigeria Navy, has warned officers and ratings to desist from all forms of bad conduct on sea, land and wherever they might find themselves.

Oluwole gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Calabar.

He described the Nigerian navy as a sensitive military formation with high professional standard, hence the need for its personnel to shun all forms of criminality.

He further enjoined them to be loyal to constituted authority, be punctual at their duty posts and always discharge their duties with the fear of God.

“The Nigerian Navy has grown into a formidable force over the years. In about four week’s time, the Nigerian Navy will be 60 years.

“We will not tolerate any form of criminality from any officer or rating. I urge you to always discharge your duties with the fear of God as indiscipline would not be condoned.”

He said that after undertaking a familiarisation tour of the navy jetty, the Navy Secondary School and the Navy Hospital in Calabar, he was satisfied with the state of the facilities and commended the Nigerian Navy for sustaining and maintaining its facilities.

Oluwole urged the personnel to always demonstrate professionalism in the discharge of their duties, adding that the authorities would continue to reward hard work.

On the issue of accommodation, the FOC gave an assurance that the naval authority was working out modalities to provide suitable accommodation for its personnel.

He told NAN that the navy had acquired more ships and boats to fight sea piracy and oil theft, adding that additional boats would be delivered to the command soon.

Oluwole further advised them to work as a team, saying that with a good spirit of togetherness, the navy would live up to its mandate of curbing oil theft and sea piracy. (NAN)
