MultiChoice reverses subscription hikes following legal pressure

MultiChoice, the company behind DStv and GOtv, has rolled back recent price increases after a court ruling deemed them unjustifiable.

The decision follows significant customer pushback, particularly in Nigeria, where over a million subscribers cancelled their services.

MultiChoice initially raised prices, attributing the increases to economic challenges such as inflation and currency devaluation. However, the move backfired, leading to customer dissatisfaction and cancellations.

The price rollback brings welcome relief to DStv and GOtv customers.

MultiChoice reflected the readjustment on its company apps as of Sunday, 16 June 2024.

While the court mandated a month of free service for subscribers, MultiChoices stance on this remains unclear. The company intends to challenge the ruling, citing concerns about its business model.

The price rollback is expected to ease the financial burden on customers, especially during challenging economic times. Whether MultiChoice upholds the courts additional ruling on a free month remains to be seen. (Daily Sun)
