The murder victim Abass Olalere and wife
In a horrific incident that has left the community reeling, a 24-year-old man, Abass Olalere, was reportedly butchered to death by a group of 12 unidentified assailants at Moniya in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Thursday night around 9:48 pm at Labinkulu village, Moniya, within the Akinyele Local Government Area.
The deceaseds wife, Omolayo Olalere, and their three-month-old son were present during the brutal attack.
According to Omolayo, the gang invaded their home, forcing their way in despite the familys attempts to lock the doors and windows. They then proceeded to mercilessly attack Abass, using various weapons such as daggers, axes, knives, broken bottles, and cutlasses, as well as charms to ensure he did not survive the onslaught.
They were 12 in number and three of them covered their faces. They used masks so as not to be identified, Omolayo recounted in a state of anguish.
The deceaseds father, Jelili Olalere, expressed his shock and disbelief, stating that his son was a quiet person with no known conflicts.
I dont know what could have prompted those guys to have invaded my house and destroyed many things before killing him, he said.
The brutal attack has left the entire community tense and grieving. Residents gathered in groups on Saturday, discussing the unfortunate incident and the loss of a young life.
The case has been reported to the Divisional Police headquarters, Moniya, and the deceaseds body has been deposited at the Adeoyo hospital morgue.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for further comments were unsuccessful. (Sunday Sun)
