Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku
Seasoned actor, Hanks Anuku, has shared a heartbreaking account of how a misconceived viral video led to abandonment and stigmatisation at his lowest point.
The video went viral In 2022 showing Anuku wandering the streets in tattered clothing, sparking widespread concern and rumors of drug use and mental breakdown.
Shortly after the video surfaced online, actress Shan George debunked the claim, stating that Anuku is not insane as widely rumoured.
Setting the record straight, Anuku in an interview with a content creator, Lucky Udu revealed that the video was actually a preparation for a movie role as a madman, and the context was grossly misunderstood.
Despite his explanations, his family, including his twin brother and wife, believed the false rumors, leaving him feeling isolated and hopeless.
According to him, his colleaguesturned against him, ceasing communication and offering him no roles.
That there was trying to get myself into character for a role that I was going to play; a mad man role, someone who isnt in his correct senses or frame of mind. I had to go naturally and visit the environment to see how itd play.
The video circulating about me is not what it seems. The videos have really affected my life. I lost all my friends, lost all my film roles, and lost money. Nothing happened to me. I am perfectly alright.
I went through pain, if you were in my shoes you would feel it. I was heartbroken for these people to do this to me, he said partly. (The Nation)
