Despite losing in all categories of the African Magic Viewers Choice award, Funke Akindele is trending, Why?
Shattering Nollywood records, and setting a new one, Funke Akindeles A Tribe Called Judah lost all major nominations at the AMVCA categories.
The most notable one, It lost the Best Movie Category to Breath Of Life, by Wale Ojo.
Funke Akindele also lost the best lead actress role, To Kehinde Bankole, of (Adire).
In the makeup category, Campbell Precious of (Mami Wata), stole the show ahead of Feyisayo Oyebisi (A Tribe Called Judah).
This translates to, losing all the major nominations the film had registered for, despite its successes in the box office.
A Tribe Called Judah was expected to be the film to beat at the AMVCA, considering the records it created, grossing over the 1-billion mark at the box office.
The first time a Nigerian film would do so.
Did Funke Know She Wont Win?
A few hours before the event, Funke posted on her X page, how being an underdog had pushed her to the top.
She also talked about the various challenges she had passed through to become successful.
Being an underdog doesnt define me, it fuels me. Despite all the challenges I face, I keep pushing boundaries in Nigerian cinema.
My success isnt measured by accolades but by the stories I tell and the lives I impact.

Funke Akindele is often hard to beat in any category she has been nominated for, her previous successes are a testament to this.

I told a friend today that Funke Akindeles A Tribe of Judah may have grossed the highest earnings of a movie in Nigeria, Breath of Life was a better movie by a mile.
Breath of life was shoulders ahead of any movie in Nigeria in 2023.
