The Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has said that transformation and sustainable development can be achieved in Nigeria and Africa if leaders prioritize critical areas of human development such as health, education, and fighting poverty.

The former Anambra state governor, disclosed this while addressing a joint session of students at two Universities in the United Kingdom, Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University on Monday, May 6, 2024 where, according to his X handle @PeterObi, on Tuesday, May 7, he shared ideas on African Leaderships Role in Fostering Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility.

Obi wrote: Yesterday, I had the pleasure and honour of addressing a joint session of students at two Universities in the United Kingdom, Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University, where I shared ideas on African Leaderships Role in Fostering Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility.

In the interaction, I discussed global citizenship which entails acknowledging our shared humanity, the inter-connectedness of our existence that transcends geographical, cultural, and ideological divides, while mentioning the critical roles of leadership in promoting inclusivity, tolerance, and collaboration globally and in raising global leaders who advance the cause of humanity.

Just like other progressive nations of the world, Nigeria, and indeed Africa, will achieve global citizenship for the people through critical investments in human development, measured through the human development indices (HDI) namely; health, education, and fighting poverty. These critical areas of human development, when prioritized by any committed leadership will transform a nation and engender sustainable development for the greater good of all humanity.

While appreciating the organisers of the program, Obi expressed confidence in a new Nigeria where youths will contribute to our national development, and make positive impacts on the global community by proffering solutions to many global challenges, adding that together we will continue to build a better humanity.

In our journey to a New Nigeria, I have consistently maintained our firm resolve to build a nation where every Nigerian, especially the youths, will have an enabling environment to grow, contribute to our national development, and make positive impacts on the global community by proffering solutions to many global challenges.

I thank the organizers of the program for their initiative and the honour of inviting me, and the audience for the lively discussions.Together we will continue to build a better humanity, he added.
