Prepaid meters
By TINA TIMOTHY
South-East Electricity Consumers Association (SEECA) has given Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and Aba Electric one month ultimatum to provide prepaid meters to residences and businesses in the South East.
Arguing that the distribution companies are required by law to provide prepaid meters as well as supply regular power to consumers as banded by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), SEECA, in a recent statement, further called on electricity consumers in the zone to, as from June 15 to July 15, 2024, desist from paying electricity bills where there is no prepaid meters(s), reject estimated bills and seize from recharging prepaid meters unless you are sure of adequate electricity supply as stated by NERC and their Banding.
From 15thJune “ 15thJuly, 2024!
NO PREPAID METER/S IN YOUR HOUSE/S AND BUSINESSES, NO PAYMENT FOR LIGHT.
SAY NO TO ESTIMATED BILLS
Prepaid meter/s consumers should seize from recharging unless you are sure of adequate electricity supply as stated by NERC and their Banding.
EEDC & APL(Geometric) must provide prepaid meters and transformers as required by law. It is their property.
They are also required to supply enough electricity to consumers as banded by the NERC.
This is a one month warning strike by the consumers to the NERC, DisCos(EEDC and APL- Geometrics), SEECA stated.
While warning consumers not to quarrel or fight with members of staff of the distribution companies (DisCos), the group urged them to join their state SEECA platforms for effective direction and coordination, adding Enough of this darkness and exploitation¦ The SouthEast must be lighted!
On no account must any consumer disturb the DisCos through their staffers from cutting light. Do not quarrel or fight with them. They have kept us, not only in epileptic or kwashiorkor ridden electricity supply for far too long but in darkness presently.
Let them hold their light and we will hold our money.
All consumers of electricity in the SouthEast must braze up for this challenge.
Enough of this darkness and exploitation.
Join your State SEECA platform for effective direction and coordination.
