Borno NSCDC vows to curb use of mega tanks to buy fuel in stations

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno has vowed to curb the menace of petroleum black market operators using vehicles fitted with mega tanks.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the black market operators were using vehicles fitted with extra tanks, which would take up to 250 litres of fuel.

The state NSCDC Commandant, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri on Sunday.

According to him, the command has observed that some black marketers are using golf cars to convey fuel which will is later discharged into gallons.

“These people are hell bent on diverting the commodity and making higher profit margins and this is dastardly.

“When you go to any filling station, you will find long queues and most of the people you will see are golf users.

“Because we are clamping down on people hoarding the commodity in containers, so they have now resorted to constructing drums in their boots which usually take up between 250 to 300 liters of fuel.

“So, you will find out that they spent hours on pumps getting fuel and I think they are doing it in collaboration with the filling station owners.

“So, to tackle this menace, we have stationed our intelligence personnel in some of the filling to ensure that no golf car buys more than 50 litres when the product is scarce.”

He said the command had made several arrests and would leave no stone unturned to ensure that others were brought to book.

“We have intensified patrols at night to clampdown on filling stations diverting the commodity meant to meet public demands.” (NAN)
