Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has condoled the Atyap Traditional Council in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of the state over the death of its paramount traditional ruler, HRH Dr. Harrison Yusuf Bungon.
Bungon, a first class chief, died last week at the age of 67.
The Governor, in a statement issued Sunday by his spokesperson Samuel Aruwan described the late traditional ruler as an astute traditional ruler and a bridge builder who died when his services are greatly needed in moving the state forward.
The statement quoted Governor El-Rufai as received with shock the news of the passage of the Agwatyap II, who died after a brief illness.
His words: “The state has lost an astute traditional ruler, a gentleman to the core with a long history of service and dedication to the cause of humanity and peace. He was a pillar and a rallying point in our quest for a better Kaduna State.
“HRH Dr. Bungon took on the responsibility of building bridges, and he distinguished himself beyond expectations in that noble quest. He represented humility and sincerity. We will miss his advocacy for peace and togetherness, and his willingness to bring people together.
“My last encounter with the Dr. Bungon was on 23rd March 2016 in Kafanchan where we all gathered to witness the signing of the Kafanchan Peace Declaration. That Peace Declaration, which marks a landmark victory of humanity over hate and peace over violence, was achieved through the dedication and commitment of people like the late monarch.
“On behalf of the Government and People of Kaduna State, I hereby extend my condolence to the immediate family of HRH Dr. Bungon, the Atyap Traditional Council and the entre people of his chiefdom. May God grant him eternal rest.”
