Kaduna gets $150m poultry – the biggest in West Africa

As the two-day Kaduna Economic and Investment 2016 summit drew to a close yesterday, Governor Nasir el-Rufai announced the coming to the state of the biggest poultry/hatchery in Sub-Saharan Africa worth 150 million US dollars.

Announcing the breaking ceremony, after the end of Kadinvest 2016 on Thursday, El-Rufai said that Olam’s poultry project will be built in Gwagwada, Chikun Local Government Area, Kilometre 24 Kaduna - Abuja Expressway.

He said Dangote Group will also establish a 10 million dollars tomato farming and processing company in the state.

“Special announcement, ground-breaking of biggest poultry/hatchery in Sub-Saharan African in Kaduna 150 million US dollars by Olam. Tomato farming and processing company 10 million US dollars by Dangote,” he said.

El-Rufai explained why investors should embrace business opportunities in the state. He said that Kaduna is a gateway to the Northern Nigerian market with effective land management, raw material availability, among others.

While reading highlights of the summit position the governor said Kaduna has decided to improve its competitiveness by developing clusters of production, adding that Federal Government planned to partner with state to improve collection of statistics and trains unemployed youths.

“Kaduna State Government is to adopt FG formula for developing the solid minerals sector.A proposal for world class developers to come to Kaduna to train the youths (science oriented) on IT and development of software. Development of tourism sector. Developing mining as a step for enhancing industrialisation and job creation,” El-Rufai announced.
