The fight against crude oil theft and sea piracy is gradually gaining grounds, following regional and sub regional cooperation enjoyed among all security agencies in the gulf of Guinea.

The Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command on Sunday, made the statement at the end of the first quarter routine march of the Nigerian Navy Personnel in Calabar.

Rear Admiral Atiku Abubakar noted that many activities geared towards re-positioning security in the maritime domain, has recorded many breakthroughs.

Addressing reporters shortly after the routine march, the Navy boss hinted on some of the breakthroughs.

“Between the last quarter of 2015 till date, the Command has recorded seizures of about 30 illegal vessels, numerous boats and arrest of many sea criminals for prosecution which is the reason for the peace enjoyed on the Eastern Naval waters,” he said.

The walk, which took off at the Nigerian Navy Ship Victory jetty, saw officers of the Navy exercising in order to keep fit through some major streets in Calabar.

The FOC believes such road march, which is a socio military activity, afforded over 500 personnel and officers of the Command come together exercising which translates to ensuring fitness of the Command personnel in rendering their statutory activities. (Channels TV)
