Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has shed more light into why he is not passionate about the Presidency but Nigeria, even as he described Presidenty Goodluck Jonathan as a blessing from God.
“I enjoin the Niger Delta youths to continue to support President Goodluck Jonathan, because when the President succeeds, the country succeeds,” Governor Akpabio said at a dinner organised by the Akwa Ibom State Government for Niger-Delta Young Professionals (NDYP) in Uyo, the state capital.
He described the emergence of Dr. Jonathan as the first Nigerian President from Niger Delta Region as a blessing from God. According to Akpabio, “You cannot be a good leader unless you are a good follower. So many people are worried why I am not passionate about the Presidency. I am not passionate about the Presidency but my country. If you wish the President to fail, that means you wish the country to fail.”
The governor commended the leadership of NDYP for organising the seminar, describing the initiative as uncommon feat that other regions in Nigeria should emulate.
Responding, NDYP President, Mr. Moses Siasia, said he was humbled by Akpabio’s leadership, and described Akpabio as a detribalised leader that would continue to forge for the unity of Nigeria.
“What brings us together as a people is greater than what divides us,” Mr. Siasia said, adding that the purpose of the organisation was to affect lives and transform the economy of the Niger Delta Region.
NDYP, a Non-Governmental Organisation was in Uyo for its maiden Economic Summit on the theme “Building Sustainable Entrepreneurship in the Niger Delta Region.” The summit which took place at Le Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo attracted participant from Niger Delta and beyond.
