Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday completed the process of relocating traders from the popular Kara Market to Ogere.
The process, which commenced on Friday, saw the Ogun State Government providing the traders with about 300 hectares of land in Ogere.
News Express reports that the traders included traders who moved to Kara Market following the recent temporary closure of Mile 12 Market in neighbouring Lagos State in the wake of a bloody clash between northerners and native Yorubas. Both Mile 12 and Kara markets were dominated by traders from the north of Nigeria. While Mile 12 was known for perishable food items such as tomatoes and pepper, Kara was noted for the sale of cattle.
The new market space at Ogere has been provided with a sleeper road that ensures that traffic in and out of the complex does not adversely affect the expressway.
In a bid to ensure that the traders do their business in a conducive, secured and healthy environment, Governor Amosun equally ensured that the new market complex is provided with not less than four boreholes alongside the presence of a stream at the location.
The Governor, while welcoming the traders to the new location, on Monday, assured them of his administration’s determination to provide them a modern market fitted with Fire Service center, modern stalls, a police station, an abattoir as well as other services.
Governor Amosun explained that the decision to relocate Kara market to the present Ogere location had been taken since 2012.
