COMBO: Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of NNPP and Dr Nasiru Gawuna of APC
The purported planned protest by both New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) and All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano, failed to hold as none of the two parties came out as planned.
However, it seems the joint security operatives which include, soldiers, Nigeria Police, civil defence, vigilantes and other security personnel held passed a night across major locations in the state capital with the presence which was noticed as early as 5 am when Muslims were going for early morning prayers
It was discovered that those traders that went for early morning market activities, as early as 6 am, waiting at the market located along new road, but they were turned back by fierce looking security operatives, a situation that forced them to left for their respective houses unexpectedly
But later in the day most markets, like Abubakar Rimi, Yankura, Naibawa, Yankaba and others markets later opened for business activities.
At the time of filling this report, the residents of the state were seen moving freely and transacting their business without intimidation or fear.
However, a chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) Honourable Seyi Olorunsola has called on the teeming masses of the state to disregard an insinuation made round that a group of people was reading ethnicity to the ongoing court action.
According to him, the issue of the governorship tussle and court matter has nothing with Yotuba, as according to him, the Yoruba belong to all political parties in the country, and they should not be targeted as being in favour of any political party.
Hon. Olorunsola was reacting to a press briefing addressed by a group tagged ‘Concerned Yoruba community in Kano’, in which their spokesperson, Taofeek Olaosebikan called on stakeholders and notable Yoruba traditional rulers to intervene in the political logjam in the State.
There are media reports calling on the president and other Yoruba leaders in the country to interfere in the issue of sacking Yusuf as state governor to avoid any potential threat to members of the community.
“There is a group of persons led by a certain Mr Taofeek Olaesebikan. Let me state here clearly that Olaesebikan is not a Yoruba leader in Kano and does not represent any shade of the Yoruba community in this state as represented in that report.
“As a matter of fact, Mr Taofeek Olaesebikan is a known member of the NNPP and the statement issued by him and his select group of persons is simply a political kite which is being flown on behalf of the NNPP with a view to causing disaffection and crisis within the Yoruba nation in Kano and the people of Kano in general,” he said.
He further explained that the Yoruba in Kano are neither inclined to religious nor political sentiments and have been living in peace in the State.
He therefore condemned the said group for wrongly instigating the populace against Yorubas residents in the State. (Saturday Tribune)
