Detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has dragged Nigeria to the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), demanding $800 million for unjust and illegal detention.
The suit was lodged yesterday by Kanu’s lawyers, Ugochinyere Chambers of Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
Joined in the suit are the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Attorney General of the Federation/Minister of Justice and Director General of the State Security Service (DSS).
In the court papers sighted by News Express, Kanu, who has been detained since October 2015 for alleged treasonable felony, describes himself as “a Nigerian citizen as well as British citizen.”
The suit is accompanied with “photographs and video clips showing the genocidal massacre and unlawful killing of the plaintiff’s supporters during a civil protest in Aba, the Aba State capital in Nigeria.”
