Borno to partner Immigration in preventing influx of illegal aliens

The Borno Government said on Wednesday that it would collaborate with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to check influx of illegal aliens to the state.

Alhaji Usman Zannah, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, stated this when the NIS Comptroller in the state, Mr Jacob Sabo, paid him a courtesy visit in Maiduguri.

Zannah said that the collaboration would also help to reduce the high rate of crime in the state.

He said eight out of the 27 local government areas in the state shared common borders with Chad, Cameroon and Niger republics.

“I think that we have a great role to play in ensuring that we prevent the influx of illegal immigrants to the state.

“This will no doubt help to reduce the crime rate and enhance security in the state, generally.”

He commended the efforts of the Borno Command of the NIS in combating the Boko Haram insurgency and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who died fighting insurgency.

The commissioner appealed to the command to assist in preventing crime and restoring order in some communities in Borno destabilised by the insurgency.

Earlier, the comptroller informed the commissioner that the visit was aimed at strengthening relationship between the NIS and the state. (NAN)
