Mrs Fatima Abdulrahaman, the President of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), has called on the Federal Government to remove bureaucracy associated with operating the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

Abdulrahaman made the appeal at news briefing in Jos at the end of the association’s National Executive Council meeting.

She said the introduction of TSA had been causing bureaucratic bottlenecks in the smooth operation of schools.

The ANCOPSS president said some issues in public secondary schools needed prompt action and “the bureaucracy of the TSA is not according it the leverage to discharge its duties.

“The introduction of TSA in a partnership school system that is the PTA in some states and its attendant bottleneck affects the day to day smooth running of the school and makes learning unconducive.”

Abdulrahaman also said that more guidance and counselling teachers were required in public secondary schools.

She said guidance and counselling teachers would guide students in the selection of their dream careers at an early stage and help them avoid misplaced priorities.

“There is a need for guidance and counselling teachers in schools.

“Parents and schools should work together in meeting the career aspirations of the children in school.”

Abdurahaman said the association had been sending teachers for training programmes from its resources to enable them to update their skills to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

“We ensure teachers are selected from the six geopolitical zones for training in our schools for the mandatory continuing training.

“We, however, implore government to take seriously the issues of training and re-training of teachers at all levels to achieve the desired results.

“Government should pursue aggressively the need for ICT compliance since examination bodies are pro- computer based.” (NAN)
