Four policemen who were on guard duty in the residence of Chief Inegite Jonathan as at the time he was abducted last week have landed themselves in trouble.

The embattled cops are presently in police custody over the abduction of the septuagenarian uncle and foster father of immediate past president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

Sources at the Bayelsa Police Command said on Wednesday that the policemen were being interrogated as part of investigations into the kidnap incident.

Police Spokesman for Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat (DSP), had told NAN that a manhunt has been launched for the kidnappers.

It would be recalled that Chief Inegite, abducted on February 17, 2016, had been kidnapped in February 28, 2014 in his house and was freed by security forces, at Akipli Community in Ogbia on March 10, 2014.

A relative of the former President, Samuel Oki, kidnapped alongside Chief Inegite, was shot dead and found floating on Otuoke creeks.

A family source, Mr Igbogiamini Paul, regretted that the policemen were not on duty when the kidnappers invaded the residence of Dr. Jonathan’s foster father.

He said: “If they had been on ground the old man would not have been easily abducted, without resistance from the police attached to the man.”

Mr. Paul disclosed that arrangements were in progress for the burial of Samuel Oki who was abducted alongside the 72-year-old man and killed by the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, the kidnappers have yet to establish contact with the family, raising concerns about the fate of the 72-year-old.
