Senator Ifeanyi Patrick
The counsel to Hon Chris Azubuogu, former member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Equsigo federal constituency in the House of Representatives and the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Anambra South Senatorial election, CJ Okoli Akirika has told the justice S Y Abubakar election petition tribunal sitting in Awka that the petitioner has filed over one million certified true copy of document evidence against INEC and Senator Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah to reclaim his stolen mandate at the last Senatorial election.
The former Attorney-General of the State announced this to the tribunal while presenting the bundles of documents to tender before the tribunal. But the defence counsel to Senator Uba, D.C.Dee Nwaigwe objected.
The petitioners’ counsel who further explained that the documents sought to be tendered are in a bundle of 22 said the documents had since been filed in the tribunal registry, but didn’t know from either of the counsel that the parties haven’t been duly served.
The counsel to Senator Ifeanyi Uba and INEC Messer’s Nwaigwe and J O Asokuta had objected that they haven’t been served with the documents sought to be tendered as mandated by the electoral act.
They argued that the tribunal had earlier directed that any document to be tendered must be filed and served and anything short of that is an indication that the petitioner has nothing to tender.
This is also coming shortly after the consolidation of the petitions filed byObinna Uzor,Labour party candidate and his party in petition Number EPT/AN/SEN/ 1/2023.
The petitioner had dragged Senator Uba., INEC, YPP and Hon Chris Azubuogu and APGA to the tribunal claiming that the results of the election didn’t reflect the true number of valid votes cast in the election, which he claimed he won if the results were not manipulated.
While Hon Chris Azubuogu and his Party The All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA in another petition Number EPT/AN/SEN/06/2023had also dragged INEC, Senator Ifeanyi Patrick Uba, YPP to the tribunal praying the tribunal to re-compute the valid votes cast at the election, pointing out that if the votes are recomputed their candidate scored the highest number of the valid votes cast at the election and ought to be returned as the winner of the election by the Independent National electoral commission.(New Telegraph)
