The former women leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Sharon Ikeazor, said on Friday that her reason for wanting to represent Anambra Central in the upper chambers of the National Assembly is to contribute her quota in achieving President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign promises in line with the party’s manifesto.
It would be recalled that Ikeazor announced her intentions recently following the defection of the former member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, to APC a fortnight ago after the nullification of last year’s senatorial election for Anambra Central senatorial zone by Enugu Court of Appeal on December 7, 2015
Addressing officials of Anambra APC at the party’s state secretariat in Awka, Ikeazor, a lawyer, said that as a foundation member of APC, she understood the programmes of the party which she helped to prepare after the merger of political parties that formed APC.
In her words, “I was the national women leader of the defunct CPC from 2011 till the merger in 2013 that produced our great party, APC and I emerged as the pioneer interim national women leader of the party, a position I held till 2014 when I was appointed a member of Board of Trustees of our party.”
She has also served as a member of the CPC special convention in 2013, APC registration committee, chairman of APC Ekiti State Congress Committee, Muhammadu Buhari Declaration Committee, 2014 Presidential Primary Convention, APC Presidential Campaign Council, among other offices.
Ikeakor while pointing out that the office of a senator required somebody with pride and great honour, assured that she would not disappoint the people of the zone if elected.
After submitting her intent form to the members of the state executive of APC, the former women leader said that her experience in politics over the years will be brought to bear in the senate.
In his speech, the state chairman of the party in Anambra State, Mr. Emeka Ibe, expressed happiness that Ikeazor declared interest to join the race, insisting that all the aspirants will be provided with a level-playing ground.
He said: “Our interest is to produce a senator that will represent APC at the National Assembly and we will ensure that due process is followed in electing our candidate.
“If you clinch the party’s ticket, ensure that you help Mr. President to deliver this country from the bondage of corruption as we know that this country was in a mess before now.”
