The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday raised a false alarm that militants had attacked Peremabiri, a coastal community in Southern Ijaw LGA.
Jonathan Obuebite, Director, Media and Publicity for Dickson Campaign Organization, had raised the alarm, alleging that Mr Paul Eris, a.k.a Ogunboss, had led militants in the company of JTF and soldiers to launch an attack on Peremabiri, where Ogunboss ails from.
Obuebite had called on the security agencies to immediately arrest Ogunboss, who has publicly opposed the re-election bid of the incumbent governor.
However the Joint Task Force and police as well as residents of Peremabiri coastal settlement said that the alarm was a false one.
“Peremabiri is not under an attack; it must have been a political propaganda by the PDP. Ogunboss is in town but nothing like attack in our community,” said a resident.
Obuebite had issued a press statement from the Bayelsa government media office e-mail account announcing the attack to the media.
Bayelsa Police Command denied knowledge the attack. Bayelsa Police Spokesman, Asinim Butswat, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said he was not aware of the attack.
“I have not received any such report, please check with your sources in the community,” Butswat said.
Chief Nathan Egba, Director of Media and Publicity, APC Governorship Campaign Organization, described the report of attack on Peremabiri as false, malicious and a desperate move by PDP to cause apprehension to discourage potential voters from participating in the poll.
Egba said that the PDP was harboring Tompolo and other ex-militants in Super Lodge 4 at the Bayelsa government house ahead Saturday’s election duties
“The accusations by Dickson and his campaign spokesman is a smokescreen designed to divert attention from the PDP who have imported thugs that are being moved to the creeks to take over various communities in Southern Ijaw LGA with the sole brief to cause violence and scare away voters,” Egba said.
