I shook my head in disbelief when I found out that there were thousands of Nigerian students in Sudan – from their capital city Khartoum to Kassala, a very tiny village not even up to one quarter of the smallest village in Nigeria. I weep for the educational system in Nigeria that forces desperate students to opt for such places in their quest for the proverbial Golden Fleece.

The recent events unfolding in Sudan due to the war has inevitably affected Nigerian students – leaving many of them stranded and living in fear.

There is no way the Nigerian educational system here would be at its optimal level and prospective students would be running to lowly Sudan for educational greener pastures. Chai! I weep for my dearest sweet nation.

These recent events made me to research more – in the course of which I came to know that there are Nigerians schooling in even Ugandan and Togolese universities that cannot withstand the Federal Technical School in my village. That Nigeria is the most populous black nation globally cannot be over-emphasised and you will find Nigerians in every country of the world, but that should not make us to study in countries that are far below our level in every ramification.

This article does not aim to take a swipe or demean other black nations but is directed towards the Federal Government of Nigeria; it is meant to challenge it to speedily develop our educational system so as to stop our innocent youths from looking for answers where there’s none in small or tiny African countries.

I love Nigeria from the deepest part of my heart and I wish to study more in her. I urge every stakeholder to rescue the future of the Nigerian youth through education so as to stop this high rate of emigration to smaller countries in search of educational greener pastures.

I do not seek to make sense but to pass sense.
