No salary for federal civil servants, police to celebrate Yuletide

The 2015 Yuletide festivity, in some quarters, were celebrated in low-key as many federal government workers were not paid their salary before 25th of December.

Meanwhile, last week, the media was awash with report attributed to President Muhammadu Buhari, directing the Ministry of Finance to pay salaries to workers in all ministries, agencies and parastatals of government.

Investigations made byNews Expressrevealed that Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has not been paid, even up to the time of filing this report and, as a result, were not able to enjoy the Christmas. Many of them have lamented that lack of fund occasioned their staying indoors and not going out to have a lot of fun as planned.

It was also learnt that government agencies including the Department of State Security Service (DSS) Nigerian Civil Defence Service Corp (NSCDC) and some other para-military agencies have not been paid to enjoy the festive season with their family members in their homes.

A victim source in Abuja said: “On the Christmas Day, I was supposed to travel down to Ibadan to see my friends and members of my family, but there is no such allowance. I have not been paid. Even, I spent the Christmas in my room because I don’t have money and I hate borrowing money.”

In their collective appeal, the affected people however called unto the Federal Government to look into the case so that the money could be remitted into their different accounts before 1st of January, 2016.

“As it is, I am just fed up. I just hope the money would be paid before next year so that we would not celebrate the 1st day of the New Year the way we spent 25th of December.”
